Desktop Gremlins VAULT

In 2009, a vision of an octopus swam into my imagination as I was drifting off to sleep. I had a strong desire to draw the creature so I jumped out of bed and sketched it on paper. But what was more important than the doodle itself, was a much bigger idea—a METHOD of putting the art on display. You can display art in a number of ways (like on a computer screen or in a frame), but my idea was that the art would be able to stand itself up—in a simple but elegant paper craft sculpture!

This IDEA led to the launch of a website named Desktop Gremlins—a PORTAL to allow visitors to download and share my easy-to-build paper craft projects. An amazing community was built around these projects and this led to many wonderful opportunities. I collaborated with companies like Google, NAMCO Bandai, ZeptoLab, and more to create clever paper craft sculptures that they could share with their audiences. In 2013, I published my first paper craft book called Desktop Gremlins Volume 1 which was met with rave reviews.

Because of the curiosity my Desktop Gremlins inspired in readers, I created a presentation called “Where Do Amazing Ideas Come From?” which I still present to this day for live audiences of schoolchildren across the country. I also teach paper craft classes for elementary school students where we examine the art of paper craft, the ideas behind original character creation, and more.

In 2017, I was honored to release the paper craft opus Papercuttables through SCHOLASTIC publishing—the largest publisher and distributor of children’s books in the world.

Based on the many email requests from all the fans of my paper craft work through the years, I am opening the vault to my favorite free paper craft projects that I have created. Enjoy!
